Alexander and Henrietta have a second chance at love when he returns to England and finds himself injured from a shipwreck. Coincidence would have Henrietta working as a paid companion to his aunt, who happens to live in the same town where he has washed ashore. Accompanying him is his manservant and later his two daughters. While circumstances, which are explained fully later on in the story, prevented the Alexander and Henrietta from marrying eight years earlier, neither can deny the attraction between them. She has convinced herself that she no longer loves Alexander, but one look at him and those feelings come rushing back. Things are complicated by having to act as governess to his daughters while he recovers. As for Alexander, he has never forgotten Henrietta or his feelings for her. Of course, he complicates matters further by keeping the true reason why he broke their engagement and married another. Add to this the mystery of the danger that has followed him from India, and you have a wonderful regency romance with some action.
I really liked they way Henrietta surprised Alexander by being bolder and more outspoken than he expected or remembered her to be. I wanted to strangle Alexander for being so evasive as to why he broke the engagement and making Henrietta assume the worst. Eventually, he admits the truth the Henrietta, but risks losing her again. Luckily they both come to their senses and get their HEA.
